I was content to keep the basic one, and have it upstairs, but a couple of times I have used it, it almost took a dive off the stairs. Even the most basic model is supposed to avoid this, but if I had not been there to catch it, it would have bounced down the stairs.
I contacted support (although bought from Amazon, the seller was Anker, who manufacture them) and we have not found a solution. However, it was pointed out to me that I have until the end of January to return it.
I try very hard not to abuse Amazon’s return policy, but it was their suggestion, so I will take them up on it. I will get store credit, which is not a problem.
Ongoing, I can either buy a second X8 some time, price allowing, or – more probably – simply carry the X8 upstairs once a week. The software on this newer model allows for storing up to 3 separate maps, and although the X8’s “drop protection” seems to work well, if I don’t want to rely on it, the X8 allows me to draw red lines in the map, stopping the vac from going there at all. Much safer
