I didn’t know a lot about the movie, except for the trailer, which showed Leonardo Dicaprio in what seemed to be in some kind of standard horror/shocker. However, I was looking for a film to see, and was surprised when I saw from the poster that it was directed by Martin Scorcese. I thought “this must be more than a simple horror/shocker”, and I was right.
Without exaggeration, it is the best film I have seen this year. Dicaprio plays a US Marshall who, with his partner, arrives on Shutter Island, to investigate a disappearance in an institution for the criminally insane – an inmate who has apparently disappeared from her locked room. However, lack of cooperation from the staff (headed by Ben Kingsley and Max von Sydow) makes him suspect a deeper conspiracy.
Definitely one to watch.
