Today I met up with my brother and sister-in-law for the last part of saying goodbye to mum; the burying of her ashes, and my dad’s plaque being updated to commemorate both of them.

It was only a short ceremony, as the main service had been at her cremation, back in August.

Although they taking a knocking on the forums these days, I have been with Pipex for some time (long before they were bought by Tiscali), and have been pretty satisfied with the quality of my connection, if not their customer service. A couple of years ago, I also paid to put mum on Pipex, so I had broadband when I was visiting her (of course, she used it as well!).

As we are selling the house, and I am not going to be back there much now, I cancelled her account at the beginning of October. I was told it would take 30 days for the account to be closed, so when I saw a payment go through in October, I did a mental shrug.

Had to get up early today, as I am working onsite today. While getting ready, I noticed my Wii was flashing me, indicating a message.

As I knew full well what that message would be – the long-awaited launch of the Iplayer Channel – I couldn’t resist having a look.

Have just ordered my ticket for the Gadget Show Live 2010, at the Birmingham NEC.

This year, they are running from Thursday April 8 to Sunday April 11. I have booked the Friday, figuring that it will be heaving over the weekend, and probably pretty busy on the opening day. Probably, all 4 days will be booked solid.

A few years ago, I picked up a copy of Nightshade, by Jack Butler. It was only a quid, and the back cover blurb sounded fun –  “There’s a vampire on Mars, and he’s the good guy”. However, when I got it home, it was added to the pile of books that were probably crap, and I would read if I was desperate.

The other day, I wasn’t desperate, but I had bought a new reading lamp, so I picked up a book at random to find a good position for the lamp. Of course, it was Nightshade, and the book grabbed me immediately.

I am not sure how I first came across Julia Nunes, probably via her YouTube channel.

Idiosyncratic isn’t the word, her music videos are uniquely hers, and an utter delight. While perhaps not always the most polished of musicians (she is having far too much fun), she is a great performer, and I am utterly impressed with her technical nouse – I’ve done my share of multitracking, but Julia does it in front of a webcam, and manages to edit it into a pretty seamless video.

For some time, I have been talking about moving my office into the smallest bedroom of the house.

When I moved here, I made the largest bedroom my office, with the plan that it would be a joint office and music room. This eventually failed on a number of issues:
