Back in September, I asked if Hunt was “a safe pair of hands for the NHS“, having a record for supporting homeopathy and limits on abortion.
Now, according to the BBC, he has stated – once again, in a new interview in the Times – that he “favours a change in law that would halve the limit on abortions from 24 weeks into a pregnancy to 12”.
The Times article is behind a firewall, but can be partially viewed here.
The Department of Health, when asked, said that the new Minister for Health was “expressing a personal view”, and that the government had no plans to change existing abortion laws. However, Hunt himself stated that he wants to see a significant reduction in the limit which would prevent almost all abortions past that time.
I guess that James Naughtie was correct about Hunt, after all.
