Had fun last night attending a house concert hosted by

Tricky Pixie were stopping by briefly on their way to perform at FilkCONtinental, in Germany. They gave a great performance. I was unfamiliar with their material, but really enjoyed it, and came away with a couple of albums.

I ended up not blogging anything during my time in Somerset. The cottage I was in not only wasn’t online (which I knew in advance), but I couldn’t even get a reasonable mobile data connection. Even the phone service was very hit and miss.

On reflection, this was not a bad thing. I had a relaxing time in the cottage, going out for days (and getting my email fix in Starbucks or similar) and chilling out in the evening.

I always wondered which of my songs might bring me to the notice of the general public, outside of my little group of friends. I had no idea it would be “Space Is Big”, written for to teach to a class of kids, in 2010.

Then took it, and sang it to a group of people, including Peggy Seeger, who apparently quite liked it.

I wrote about this on the filk_uk mail-list, but it amused me sufficiently to write about it here, too, as not everybody here is there, and vice versa.

On Sunday, I went to a house filk hosted by and . While there I shot some video, to get some practice with my Bloggie 3D.

On getting home, I had something to eat, and decided to quickly check out the footage, by plugging the camera into the back of my TV.

After switching the TV to 3D mode, I was most disappointed, as skipping through the footage it looked like everything I shot was badly blurred. This was not the case with stuff I had filmed at other times, where the picture had appeared quite sharp. I wondered if perhaps I had smeared a lens, or whether I had over-estimated the light levels in the room, although I couldn’t see why that should affect the focus (as I believe this camera is fixed focus)

I love how different hobbies come together in your life.

I’ve been going through papers and stuff from my trip to Consonance and I came across this filk, which I had forgotten about. Early on at the convention, I mentioned that I was interested in barbecue, and after that, it became a popular topic of conversation.

I’m sorry, but I was just having too good a time at Consonance to worry about blogging. So here is a rather concise summary.
Friday was very much spent how I normally spend convention Fridays – hanging out and meeting folk. A surprising number of people I had met before, and after a few hours I felt that many others seemed like old friends too. I sat in on the Friday night filking, and saw it through to 2:40am.
Saturday: got up too late for breakfast, but Starbucks saved the day. Ran through my set in my room, then tried to forget about it until the time. Fate (or the concom) were kind to me – lately it seems I have been always following either GOH or otherwise notable acts. This time I was on before Joe Giacoio and Carla Ulbrich, for which I was very grateful.

Today is my last day at work for a while. I have a busy weekend ahead of me, getting all my clothes and stuff together and packed, and doing my guitar practice; then on Tuesday next week, I fly out to San Francisco for a 3 week holiday.

The trip will include staying with various filkers throughout the California state, attending Consonance, and spending time exploring both Los Angeles and San Franciso.

While at Halsway, a few of us discussed exchanging song fragments, to see if we could either finish off each other’s songs or get some kind of inspiration to go in another direction.

Anyway, I have sorted through my “unfinished” folder, and posted up half a dozen sets of lyrics in various stages of completion.

As it has been blogged by , I guess it is now ok to reveal that I have been asked to be the International Guest at Consonance 2011, the San Francisco Bay Area filk convention.

I’ve been sitting on the news for a month, and fit to burst. Needless to say, I am thrilled to bits.

I am in the midst of moving my various websites from their individual websites, to bring them altogether on a Virtual Private Server.

I’ve been hosting with Xcalibre for several years, and I am not exactly abandoning them – they have sold off their hosting operation to Webfusion, who just happened to have some decent deals on VPS, so I am transferring it all across.
