Fingerpicking

For most of my guitar-playing life, I have played acoustic rhythm, with occasional use of an odd thumb and index fingerpick I developed out of nowhere – it is distinctive and works quite well, but I used to yearn for a bit of variation.

Over the years, I have learned to use my other fingers a little more, and have stretched my repertoire of patterns a bit. With the rediscovery of my old childhood guitar, which seems to lend itself to fingerpicking, I have been doing this a little more of late.

So I was delighted to come across this page, which details 16 different fingerpicking patters, with audio to show how they should sound. They will be nothing new to experienced guitarists, but for fingerpicking neophytes like myself, they are easy to follow and sound quite effective. Trying them out on some of my old songs have brought them new life.
