Time flies like an arrow…

Fruit flies… heh

We have had an invasion of fruit flies round here this week – Wednesday morning I came into my kitchen to find them everywhere.

I was worried I had left something out, or let my bin get dirty, but apparently, it is also happening elsewhere.

Anyway, I was passed this tip. Into a small glass, pour an inch of vinegar – something fragrant, like cider vinegar. Add a squeeze of washing up liquid, and also wipe the inside rim of the glass with washing up liquid. This attracts, traps and kills the flies, and is easily cleaned out. It doesn’t smell nasty, and is very effective. I’ve just emptied a glass with a few dozen flies in, and the kitchen and lounge is relatively clear.

Thank G*d it isn’t my slovenly housekeeping! We’ve been invaded and I thought it was just me, or that the kids had hidden a soggy banana somewhere….

I’m sorry you have them too, but I’m very glad it isn’t just me! I’m going to try the glass trap thing today with some cider (I don’t have any cider vinegar)…

Isn’t there an old saying that you can catch more flies with honey than vinegar? So much for folk wisdom.
