Duh

Wanting to copy some MP3 files to my HTC Desire, I have been frantically searching for the USB lead for it, which had to be there somewhere. Then I realised – it is the same lead that is dangling out of the power supply.

I mentioned in my previous post that as my HTC Desire is a work phone, I will not be using it for calls while I am in the States, due to roaming costs. Which is why I wanted to look at VOIP again.

I have had a VOIP/SIP client on my phone for some time – SIPDroid. It is a popular client, and I could use it to make calls through my work VOIP phone system. However, it would never ring when a call came in, which limited its use.

Today is my last day at work for a while. I have a busy weekend ahead of me, getting all my clothes and stuff together and packed, and doing my guitar practice; then on Tuesday next week, I fly out to San Francisco for a 3 week holiday.

The trip will include staying with various filkers throughout the California state, attending Consonance, and spending time exploring both Los Angeles and San Franciso.

The King’s Speech did very well at the BAFTAs, winning 7 awards, including best film, best screenplay, best actor and best supporting actress.

However, best director went to David Fincher, for The Social Network, and I think it is almost certain that he will also get the Oscar.

Misbah Rana has been back in the news again this week, because she is back in Britain, staying with her sister and brothers.

It’s a story I followed 4 years ago, and I am not particularly interested in the rehash of it all – there is nothing really exceptional about her coming back to Britain and it is a bit of a non-story. But I am irritated by the way it is being reported. Practically all of the British media start their articles with words like “Molly Campbell, now known as Misbah Rana”, or “Molly Campbell, who changed her name to Misbah Rana when she went to Pakistan”.

My carpets were fitted today, along with floor covering in the kitchen. It all went well, the only minor hitch being that I need to get a couple of my kitchen plinths planed down, as they won’t quite fit over the vinyl floor covering.

The job for the weekend is to try and get myself straight, and get some furniture back in the house from the conservatory and garage. If things go well on Saturday, I may drive up to the FilkCon on the Sunday for the day, but it’s equally likely that I may just want to put my feet up. Sorry guys, but having lived with my house in a semi mess for a few months, I desparately want to get straight.
